Also at Fenway Health’s headquarters office at 1340 Boylston Street, Boston, were friends and family of the author, Tom Martorelli, who told several of the stories behind the story of For People, Not for Profit, his book about Fenway Health’s forty years of service to women, local neighborhood residents, the elderly, and the LGBT community.

Martorelli’s remarks covered the evolution of Fenway Health as a community service organization, the responsibilities of a story-teller to the people whose lives he reveals in sometimes intimate detail, and – most importantly – the love story he believes will always be at the heart of Fenway Health’s relationship with its volunteers, employees, and patients.

“I can’t thank Fenway Health enough for giving me the chance to tell such a great story. It’s been a dream come true to meet, and write about, so many people who are true heroes of the community health care movement, the battle against a modern epidemic, and the builders of an organization that will continue to contribute so much in the years to come,” he said at the conclusion of the evening’s celebration.

(Boston, MA, October 20, 2012) Fenway Health announced this week that Tom Martorelli, author of For People, Not For Profit, will speak about his book on Friday, November 16, from 5 through 7 pm at Fenway Health’s Ansin Building location, 1340 Boylston Street, Boston, MA.

Timed to coincide as closely as possible with the actual 40th anniversary of Fenway Community Health Center’s articles of incorporation, filed on November 4, 1972, the event will also include appearances by many of the thirty individuals Tom interviewed as part of his research – people who were present when the organization was founded in the 1970s, veterans who have worked at Fenway for three decades or more, and current staff, board members, and volunteers.

All are welcome.
